Or just put it in a separate chassis all together with a switcher for various voltages. Then when Schitt comes out with a new amp or DAC, they'll only have to ship the pcb chassis for a lesser cost. A new old stock/new in box would be like $170. It was worth it over the stock tube to me. I'm a freak though. I have to know that I have the best. I justified it because even with an expensive tube, the Vali3 + WE396A was still less than the Jotenheim2. The Vali 3 sounded similar and...- Condocondor

I tested my Vali 3, turned on the unit, let it warm up, then pluged in my EditionXX--no popping whatsoever. Schitt must have solved that problem.- Condocondor

Hold the phone! Got this NOS Phillips 2C51 tube from TUBE DEPOT for $19.95. Pictured alongside my 1966 WE396A ($100). This is the vendor I bought from on ebay. Great guy. Boy either the '66 or the '50 seem good to me. Not an expert on this tube but I don't think you could lose. The '50 is stronger.- Condocondor

"Yes the price is high but the quality is absolutely there and in spades. The 4 distinct filters, K2HD, Xbass, XSpace, Turbo mode, and IEMatch all somehow add up to something that is more than the sum of their parts. No. Mine does not have the higher spec'd, ruggedized "JW" but it's the same tube according to the ebay tube vendor. He had the JW for sale at $170 but I declined.- Condocondor

I'd go straight for the endgame tube. WE396A. You could spend so much money buying "cheap tubes & adapters" that sound decent, only to find, in the end, the WE396A is what you should have had all along. Then you never have tube "nervosa". Like I said before, $149+$170 for the tube is still...- Condocondor
