    Earbuds Round-Up

We have a first impression of the Moondrop paperclip earbud from a consumer: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/moondrop-earbuds-returns.972829/page-2#post-18133492 Doesn't make for good reading though, if it is even more LowFI than the yincrow X6.

Dunu Zen Pro 2025 Seems accessories are new, but unsure if there is tuning change from the Zen Pro lineage. https://www.facebook.com/DUNU.FANS/posts/pfbid0M8Nw8eeNFFdQSww4icSEwQoRtd1tSJQDGnbAngsCSkegGsQKYnkZJWKnF569ryeQl Would agree with @Hypops about the possibility of low impedance...

You can read about the DUNU Falcon Ultra. It has 2 tuning nozzles. One is also harmanish, the other is more laid back. And you get all round improvements from the Tanya.

@Deckard001 Mine is a rather fast gaming laptop, and this dongle doesn't sound analogue at all, it is very clinical and sterile, with good technicalities. No doubt there are some filters you can play with that make it a bit more analogue, but there are way more analogue sounding dongles like...

Bro this one is thinner in male vocals than the Kato, especially on the less bassy settings. Knowing your preferences, probably not an upgrade over the KATO. Yeah the Origin nozzles were gimmicks. This one at least has real changes on the tuning dial. I suspect though that those with poor...

Hi @Deckard001 , you need to long-press the "M" button to access the settings page, where users can play with various options, including gain, channel balancing and DAC filters. Not the +/- button but long press the "M" button.

The Tanchjim 4U is a DMT-4 LCP DD IEM. The zinc alloy shells fit very well, they are small bean shaped designs akin to those Shure-type housings. There's a mirror-like faceplate, it definitely looks elegant, but may be a potential scratch or fingerprint magnet (so do baby them carefully!)...

The Explorer actually sounds similarly tonally to some of the Fatfreq gear, big sub-bass with relatively neutral mids and treble. But of course, some of these higher-end Fatfreq stuff have better technicalities, which is expected for the price differential. Don't look into Medusa's eyes! I...

Nope the Origin is leaner and brighter, whereas the Tanya is a bassier and warmer beast. Origin has better technicalities, including soundstage, but of course the price differential is a lot between them.

Word of caution, the Moondrop Variations has questionable QC, quite a few cases of the faceplate dropping out from forum members. Including myself: It sounds good though, for a MidFI hybrid. Harmanish tuned, which will make any measurebator worth their salt weak in the knees. Big sub-bass...

Both are single-ended only dongles. Tempotec Sonata HD Pro is dead neutral, whereas the KA11 is a warmer dongle with some bass emphasis. The Sonata HD Pro has volume controllers and a detachable cable, which is not present in the KA11. The HD Pro is limited to 60 mW at 32 ohms, and it cannot...

The mesh plays a part in tuning the sound, usually to damp certain frequencies. It is their "trade secret", but there must be a reason why they are using certain meshes in synergy with certain driver/shell acoustics. Companies nowadays know how to release something that shouldn't sink, eg by...

KA17 on desktop mode has quite nice imaging and soundstage. Best part is it has 650 mW output on 4.4 mm desktop mode, which as of the time of writing, is probably the most powerful dongle. Easily beats other dongles and even some other DAPs. It also has PEQ for Android devices on Fiio's app, so...

[FiiO KA17] Mini desktop-class amp, flagship dongle is officially released!

There are some outlier IEMs like the Final E5000 (low sensitivity) that will benefit from desktop mode, in terms of bass tightness and dynamics, but by and large, most IEMs would probably not need the desktop mode. You have to factor in battery drain and heat on this mode for the IEMs (which...

KZ PR1 or PR3 Getting my feet wet on Planar world!

If it has to be a planar IEM, consider the Hidizs MP145. Has 3 tuning nozzles to vary the sound signature, massive soundstage, and doesn't have the typical planar timbre. Only thing is the shells are huge. It is going at $99 USD during sales now I think.

The AFUL Explorer is a 1DD + 2BA hybrid, that was previously called the Performer 3 during pre-production. Tech-wise, AFUL has installed some special resonating acoustic tube in this IEM, unlike a conventional acoustic tubing. Sound-wise the Explorer can be described as neutral with a...
