Interesting, thank you. I know it's a contentious subject but can I ask how many hours you had put on them prior to writing the review? The thinness you describe sounds a little like the stiffness and rough edges bedding in that 100+ hours of use evens out and develops the body we expect, although of course I defer to your greater experience.

At the time of writing I probably had about 30hrs of listening on Tungsten because I really wanted to understand where it fit into my collection. I've yet to hear a headphone change its sound substantially after hours of use. In my experience Focal's usually have a rattling and popping that goes away after a few days of use, but I've never heard anything tonally change contrary to other's accounts.

I am sorry to say but it's your equipment chain, no Synergy.
Phone is not a good source for any thing. In addition to that you need more than 30 hours to get to know the headphone and let them breakin in the same time. But like I said too many weak links in the chain.

I'm using amps recommended by the manufacturer, multiple dacs and sources including (not exclusively) a phone (didn't explain this very well in the review.) Even tried on Dave+mscaler and a $13,000 tube amp. Signal chain may change it's absolute sound, but it's sound relative to other headphones doesn't change.

If that's the case you should sell it.
HRTF is a thing.

It kind of sounds like you would have preferred the Single Sided, my friend. When mine come in I'll trade ya
