If you don't know, it is not a stupid question. It is more stupid to act without knowing and not asking.

The coax output is a digital output to another dac system. The DX320 would act as a storage unit for the music to an external dac via the coax cable. The line out is using the DX320 dac system put out an analog signal to an external amplifier, be it portable or a desktop system.

Thanks, that makes more sense now.

To be honest, I'm quite surprised that iBasso didn't supply us with a interconnect 4.4mm line out cable with AMP12 but I guess it shouldn't cost too much to get one from Amazon.
I was thinking about experimenting with my modded AMP12EXN-S with my new FiiO R9 since I love the sound of my DX320 already.

Now I have never used 4.4mm line out before, so I feed a short 4.4mm interconnect cable from AMP12 into my Fiio R9's 4.4mm headphone out? Or does my Fiio R9 need a specific 4.4mm line in socket? Not sure how any of this works, since I have never used line out before.

You have to use a line in, from a line out. I would look at the manual for where the in is and what type of connection it takes.

Yes, your Fiio needs balanced socket, if you want balanced line.

Unfortunately my R9 doesn't have line in input at all so there is no way to do that, but that's ok.
