USB Audio Player PRO (UAPP): 24- and 32-bit playback, ubiquitous USB audio support for Android

Well, I've been using PowerAmp and UAPP, and in their default configurations they both seem to draw very little power.

I think the power draw of the actual headphones/headphone jack and DAC/Amp circuits is much higher than either app and they are both very, very low power draw apps according to my battery report from my LG V60. It would be amazing if only the Apps drew power, because then I'd get like 200-300 hours of playtime, but since that's literally impossible, it's more like 40-80 hours of playtime from 100%-0%, thus crushing the battery life of all actually available DAPs on the market.

Both seem to be excellent and transparent overall, to my ears.

UAPP is slightly more prone to crashing and takes longer to update the library, and PowerAmp has a slightly better UI.

Sound-wise, as I mentioned above, they are both transparent with UAPP being very slightly louder at the same system volume, for some reason. To volume match I have to turn up PowerAmp by 2.

Why UAPP just display "16 bit", Quad DAC works?

(LG v40, Android 8.1)

In Neutron, it upscale to 32 bit.

Why would anyone want UAPP or anything else to upscale? It does not improve 16 bit sound to upscale to 24 or 32.

In fact, it can sound worse and can introduce distortion and noise (if badly implemented, if well implemented it's still just source-transparent with no audible issues) not to mention upscaling takes more power because of higher processing power needs.

I use LG quad dac phone. There is something about 16/44.1 resample to 16/48. Therefore, if you want to play at original 44.1 sample rate:

- Poweramp need force 24 bit
- Neutron auto "upscale" to 32 bit, and display 32 bit, 44.1Khz when i play 16/44.1 song.
- UAPP, i dont know.

Only for LG quad dac phone.

I understand now. With UAPP, you don't need to upscale the bits to avoid frequency resampling. UAPP bypasses Android audio resampling regardless of your source bits/frequency as long as your DAC supports that format. The LG quad DAC supports native 16/44.1 KHz format, so UAPP will just send that directly.

That's why UAPP, in your screenshot shows "Direct 16/44.1."

Some people like to make double sure and enable "bit perfect" mode, but that's not really necessary to avoid added *theoretically audible* distortion from resampling by UAPP.

Have a good one!

I understand. Thank you for helping out so much, @hanskey .

I love UAPP more than Neutron, because this feature : "More albums by singer ABC" :gs1000smile:
Hell yeah!

I was thinking it was kinda power-hungry, but I objectively measured it using my phone's battery reporting and it's not. It's a great app!

I think the included EQ is good too - no audible distortions, but I only slightly bump the bass on my more bass-lean "neutral" headphones, for low-volume listening.

Hi there!

I recently bought a ifi Hip DAC 3 and use it with a Galaxy S23. Everything runs fine so far but sometimes after plugging in and confirming the USB Access, UAPP shows a message that there was an error in opening the USB. I should check my Microphone permissions 🤨.

This doesnt occur when I first start UAPP and THEN plug in the DAC.

Is there something which speaks against doing so? 😁

Greetings

Hi,

UAPP can be used in several ways.

It can be used as a local player and send files to an external USB DAC and given the name I assume that this is the primary use of that app.

It can also be used as a media server if you enable the function.
What does this do ? Simple : you can share the library. In other words : UAPP installed on device 1 has a music library. You can connect to UAPP from your remote device and browse through library and then play it on whatever device you'd like.
It looks to me that this function has been added later and it's not functional or that it is still beta feature. It works but it's not reliable at all at least for me.
If I try to browse the library on my remote device using UAPP tracks do not start playing with an error Failed to read track !
If I browse the library with third party app, I can play tracks but browsing is a mess. I rarely get a message "Current state of device does not allow the operation".

It can also be used to stream.
In other words you install UAPP on your device, access whatever library you want and send track to a remote player.
That more or less works but it often gets into hiccups with some devices : playback does not start ; tracks do not play ; high distortion...
UAPP is probably not at fault here. The target device is probably as much as UAPP but still...

This is fabulous app but probably developed by a small number of passionate people dedicating free time to the app and who are looking to add features but that can't follow up.

Will wait for version 8 and hope I will then be able to use just one app on player and remote device to browse and play my musical library.

Regards.

Device dependent, but it natively plays back .dsf files for me, and there is also a separate upsampling section, which would not apply to DSD files, but upsample all PCM to maximum supported rate (or maximum supported rate that is an integer multiple of source rate).

These options are found in both settings-> Internal HiRes Audio, and settings-> USB Audio.

Shouldn't take months to find but w/e
thanks for this...UApp has so many settings I often get lost in the weeds lol. Sometimes I think I cancel out what I want to do checking too many boxes and settings.

Hello to you all.

Last year I purchased my first Hiby r6llll and the first thing I did was install my paid for USB audio player Pro.
And like one does you scan your SD card for all of your music, and log into TIDAL in the app.
All of that works great until I got a new Hiby r6lll to replace it because I had sold to a friend
And now it freezes constantly. It’s the death freeze there’s no coming back from that. I’ve uninstalled reinstalled dozens of times still freezes both with saving data and not saving data. No help. Now I can’t use it at all.

Does anyone else have this problem who has solved it?
